Tresco Logistics Private Limited : The Indian government has banned the export of Remdesivir, a drug used in the treatment of COVID-19, amid a surge in cases in the country. The decision was made to ensure an adequate supply of the drug for domestic use as India grapples with a devastating second wave of the pandemic.
Remdesivir has been in high demand in India as the country experiences a record number of daily COVID-19 cases. The drug is considered an important tool in the treatment of severe cases of the disease and has been used extensively in hospitals across the country.
In a statement, the Indian Health Ministry said, “The export of Remdesivir and Remdesivir Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) has been prohibited with immediate effect. This decision will help to ensure that the drug is available in sufficient quantities for domestic use, and to address the current surge in demand for the drug.”
The decision to ban the export of Remdesivir comes after reports of shortages of the drug in some parts of India, leading to panic among patients and their families. The government has also urged manufacturers to ramp up production of the drug to meet the increasing demand.
India is currently experiencing a devastating surge in COVID-19 cases, with hospitals overwhelmed and a shortage of critical supplies such as oxygen cylinders and hospital beds. The country has reported more than 300,000 new cases per day for several days in a row, leading to concerns about the ability of the healthcare system to cope with the crisis.
The government has taken several steps to address the situation, including ramping up the production of medical supplies, increasing the number of hospital beds, and implementing strict measures to control the spread of the virus. The ban on the export of Remdesivir is seen as a crucial step in ensuring that the drug is available to patients who need it the most.
