Rincon de la Vieja is an active volcano located in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. The volcano, which stands at an altitude of 1,916 meters (6,286 feet), has erupted numerous times over the past 9,000 years, with its last eruption occurring in 2021.

The Rincon de la Vieja National Park, which covers an area of 34,000 acres, surrounds the volcano and offers visitors a variety of activities, such as hiking, bird watching, and hot spring bathing. The park is also home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including howler monkeys, jaguars, and armadillos.

The volcano’s geothermal activity is harnessed for the production of electricity, and there are several geothermal power plants in the area. Rincon de la Vieja volcano is considered an important geological site and is closely monitored by scientists for research purposes.
